Overview
A creative investigative home content specialist conceiving of and executing a range of digital, print, social, interactive, and video content for all Consumer Reports products. Helps craft home content strategy for range of marketplace sectors and executes integrated content. Delivers short and long-form integrated stories that inspire, drive results, and achieve awareness.
Under our CRFlex program, this is a hybrid position. The successful candidate must reside within 75 miles of our Yonkers office. This position is not eligible for sponsorship.
How You'll Make An Impact
- Generates cross-platform home content campaigns that will be published across print, digital, and video platforms; works closely with counterparts in Labs, Advocacy, Survey, Communications, Design, and other key stakeholders to maximize resources and consumer impact.
- Conceives and executes high-quality, well-reported, in-depth short and long-form home content for all CR digital platforms; develops home strategy with digital editors, social media team, and distribution partners to optimize content for search and social.
- Monitors and engages with multiple social platforms for intelligence gathering and direct engagement regarding home issues. Optimizes content for maximum exposure in social channels.
- Conceptualizes and generates large scale original cross-platform content and coordinates efforts around multiplatform home content initiatives.
- Conducts large scale enterprise investigative reporting about home issues. Consults with writers on investigative reporting assignments including concept development, sources, substance and direction.
- Proactively follows and reports on assigned product categories ensuring content is relevant, cutting-edge and addresses consumer needs in a proactive way.
- Maintains and develops new source contacts. Ensures technical accuracy and completeness of story substance.
- Acts as both in-house home expert and CR home representative for media outreach and public events.
- Acts as on-camera home subject-matter expert for all CR video platforms; may be asked to execute rough drafts of video scripts.
- Edits the work of other writers in assigned product categories for publication on multiple platforms; advises other writes on best practices for digital content production.
- Spearheads specialized work around high profile topics where CR is making an engagement/policy push. This may include working and coordinating with external editorial partners.
- Partners with digital editorial team to maintain specialty products such as Buying Guides, Product Pages, and other regularly-updated content on Consumer Reports Online.
- Attends trade shows and other industry events as needed to stay abreast of trends and best practices.
- Owns coordination of information from Labs, Advocacy, Survey, Social, Communications, Design, and other organizational teams that support assigned content areas.
About You
You’ll Be Highly Rated If:
- Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of five years of experience in multi-platform editorial for home, business or consumer project journalism required.
- Strategic creative skills essential.
- Must be able to work in self-directed capacity and to conceive and execute compelling multimedia content.
- Can translate complex technical construction or design –related information into informative content across multiple platforms.
- Ability to manage and lead in a cross-organizational capacity required.
- A thorough knowledge of home and the interior design industry are required.
- Should be able to read and follow interior design and contracting literature for new developments in design, preventive home maintenance, appliances, landscaping, materials, policies and contracting-related practices for content ideas and implement ideas in new and innovative formats.
- High level of competency in all aspects of reviewing and creating accurate and compelling stories across all platforms.
- Highly skilled in collecting and interpreting all data, internal and external, to create the most accurate and in context story possible.
- Ability to smoothly transition writing styles from hard news to expository review to opinionated blog.
- High level of competency in editing and writing display copy, generating ideas for infographics across all media.
- Excellent organizational skills and ability to meet rigid deadlines.
- Competency with page design software (for example, K4 and CQ) as well as office and document software (for example, Microsoft Office and Google Docs) highly beneficial.
- On-camera broadcast experience, mass media training, and a daily journalism background are preferred.

FAIR PAY & A JUST WORKPLACE
At Consumer Reports, we are committed to fair, transparent pay and we strive to provide competitive, market-informed compensation. The target salary range for this position is $135k to $145k. It is anticipated that most qualified candidates will fall near the middle of this range. Compensation for the successful candidate will be informed by the candidate’s particular combination of knowledge, skills, competencies, and experience.
